“MAN V. FOOD” COULDN’T BEAT CHOMPIE’S CHALLENGE
Adam Richman stopped cold by Chompie’s “Ultimate Slider Challenge”

Watch Adam Richman’s post-challenge video at: http://www.travelchannel.com/TV_Shows/Man_V_Food/Video/The_Ultimate_Slider_Challenge
Adam Richman, the popular host of Travel Channel’s Man v. Food, came to Arizona to conquer the “Ultimate Slider Challenge” at Chompie’s, Arizona’s New York Deli. As it turned out, the Chompie’s Challenge conquered him. In an episode that premiered Wednesday July 14, the Travel Channel host failed to finish the massive plate of twelve Chompie’s Jewish Sliders in 30 minutes.
“We’re so glad the secret is out, and we’re proud to tell the world that even Adam Richman couldn’t master our Ultimate Slider Challenge,” said Wendy Borenstein-Tucker, a member of the family that owns the popular Valley chain. “Adam came close, but five pounds of food is a lot no matter how delicious it is. We’re grateful to Adam for helping put Chompie’s Jewish Sliders on national TV.”
On the day the episode first aired, Chompie’s four restaurants in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Chandler and Tempe combined to sell more than 7,600 Jewish Sliders. At one point, the crowd waiting to get into Chompie’s Tempe wrapped halfway around the building. Chompie’s bakery staff baked an extra thousand challah rolls to meet the demand.
Since the show premiered, dozens more people have attempted the Challenge, but Ron Sirard of Phoenix is still the only person to finish the five-pound platter of twelve Jewish Sliders and a mountain of onion strings in thirty minutes or less. Sirard’s photo looks a little lonely on the Chompie’s “Wall of Fame.”
“Eventually, someone else will beat the Ultimate Slider Challenge,” said Borenstein-Tucker. “And who knows? Maybe Adam Richman will want to come back for a rematch!”
Try the Jewish Sliders and the “Ultimate Slider Challenge” at any Chompie’s location: 9301 E. Shea Blvd. (Scottsdale), 1160 E. University (Tempe), Paradise Valley Mall (Phoenix), and now open at Chandler Village Center, 3481 W. Frye Road, just south of Chandler Fashion Mall. “MAN V. FOOD” COMES TO CHOMPIE’S, EPISODE SET TO AIR JULY 14
Travel Channel Host Adam Richman takes on Chompie’s “Ultimate Slider Challenge”
(Phoenix) Adam Richman, the popular host of Travel Channel’s Man v. Food, takes on the “Ultimate Slider Challenge” at Chompie’s, Arizona’s New York Deli, in an episode set to air in Phoenix on Wednesday, July 14th at 9 p.m.
Richman, the affable host of Man v. Food, came to Tempe in mid-March in an attempt to add the Chompie’s Ultimate Slider Challenge to his long list of culinary victories. He faced a five-pound platter of twelve “Jewish Sliders” (mini-challah rolls filled with lean beef brisket, jack cheese and a potato pancake) and a mountain of onion strings, which he had to finish in thirty minutes or less.
Viewers will be the first to learn how Richman fared, as the results have been kept secret since the March taping. If successful, Richman’s picture will be added to Chompie’s “Wall of Fame,” alongside Phoenix’s Ron Sirard, the first person to beat the challenge.
Neal Borenstein, whose family owns and operates Chompie’s, said it’s been fun keeping the results a secret. “The only thing I’ve told anyone is what a great guy Adam is,” said Borenstein. “When people ask how he did, I just tell them they’ll have to watch the Travel Channel when the Chompie’s episode airs on July 14th.”
To celebrate the Travel Channel’s premiere broadcast of the Chompie’s Man v. Food episode, Chompie’s will offer their Jewish Sliders, regularly $3.99, for just $.99 each on July 14th from 10:30 a.m. until closing at all four Chompie’s locations.
Man v. Food airs locally Wednesday evenings at 9 p.m. Check your local TV service provider listings for exact times. This airing is subject to change, so check www.travelchannel.com prior to the air date to confirm.
Visit any Chompie’s: 9301 E. Shea Blvd. (Scottsdale), 1160 E. University (Tempe), Paradise Valley Mall (Phoenix), and now open at Chandler Village Center, 3481 W. Frye Road, just south of Chandler Fashion Mall.
Chompie’s, a family owned and operated N.Y. style delicatessen, restaurant, bagel factory, bakery, and caterer, has served the Valley since 1979 with mouthwatering breakfast-all-day, lunch, and dinner 7-days a week. Chompie’s, “Arizona’s New York Deli Since 1979″, founded and owned by the Borenstein Family from Queens, N.Y., has recently opened its fourth Valley location in Chandler, AZ. Walk through the doors into the “Staten Island” lobby, and there’s no mistaking the stunning New York Deli themed decor featuring the five N.Y. boroughs, murals galore and the inviting, brightly lit and well-stocked bakery and deli case to the right, stretching the length of the front like a N.Y. limo.
Continue past the “Brooklyn” deli case into the “Manhattan” (Wi-Fi) room (be sure to bring your baked-from-scratch pastry, bagel and coffee), warmly decorated with round cafe tables, a huge stone fireplace, and large windows. Left from the hostess station, past the bar featuring beer-on-tap, wine and cocktails, enter into the main open dining areas dubbed “Queens” and “The Bronx”, and you’re transported by wall-to-wall murals of all things New York-from the inside of the N.Y. subway to the streets of N.Y. and a high ceiling lit-up by a N.Y. skyline.
It’s the perfect setting to enjoy Chompie’s huge N.Y. style menu, including multi-award-winning Mile High N.Y. style deli sandwiches like the “World’s Best Corned Beef Sandwich”, hearty breakfast-all-day, homemade matzo ball soup, world famous N.Y. style boiled-then-baked bagels, baked-from-scratch pastries and breads, “all time favorite” dinners, homemade knishes and much more.
A selection of Chompie’s-Chandler photos may be viewed on Chompie’s Facebook page at “chompiesaz”. Chompie’s-Chandler is located at 3481 W. Frye Road, 85226. Chompie’s also has locations in Phoenix, Scottsdale, and Tempe, Arizona. Visit www.chompies.com.
