“MAN V. FOOD” COULDN’T BEAT CHOMPIE’S CHALLENGE

Adam Richman, the popular host of Travel Channel’s Man v. Food, came to Arizona to conquer the “Ultimate Slider Challenge” at Chompie’s, Arizona’s New York Deli. As it turned out, the Chompie’s Challenge conquered him. In an episode that premiered Wednesday July 14, the Travel Channel host failed to finish the massive plate of twelve Chompie’s Jewish Sliders in 30 minutes.

“We’re so glad the secret is out, and we’re proud to tell the world that even Adam Richman couldn’t master our Ultimate Slider Challenge,” said Wendy Borenstein-Tucker, a member of the family that owns the popular Valley chain. “Adam came close, but five pounds of food is a lot no matter how delicious it is. We’re grateful to Adam for helping put Chompie’s Jewish Sliders on national TV.”

On the day the episode first aired, Chompie’s four restaurants in Scottsdale, Phoenix, Chandler and Tempe combined to sell more than 7,600 Jewish Sliders. At one point, the crowd waiting to get into Chompie’s Tempe wrapped halfway around the building. Chompie’s bakery staff baked an extra thousand challah rolls to meet the demand.

Since the show premiered, dozens more people have attempted the Challenge, but Ron Sirard of Phoenix is still the only person to finish the five-pound platter of twelve Jewish Sliders and a mountain of onion strings in thirty minutes or less. Sirard’s photo looks a little lonely on the Chompie’s “Wall of Fame.”

“Eventually, someone else will beat the Ultimate Slider Challenge,” said Borenstein-Tucker. “And who knows? Maybe Adam Richman will want to come back for a rematch!”

Try the Jewish Sliders and the “Ultimate Slider Challenge” at any Chompie’s location: 9301 E. Shea Blvd. (Scottsdale), 1160 E. University (Tempe), Paradise Valley Mall (Phoenix), and now open at Chandler Village Center, 3481 W. Frye Road, just south of Chandler Fashion Mall.
